How Much Do Locksmiths Charge in Tucson?

Locksmith fees have two parts. The service call covers bringing the van and the equipment to you. The work is priced on top of that and depends on the job and your vehicle. Give us the year, make and model and we'll tell you the total before we head your way.

  • Service Call Anywhere In Tucson: $49

  • Car lockout, inside Tucson city limits: never more than $169 total

  • Outside Tucson city limits: A Travel fee applies to by mile.

  • If we can't complete the job: no charge

How Much Is A Locksmith For Car Lockout?

Keys locked in the car? Inside Tucson city limits your total will never be more than $169, and that includes the $49 service call. We open the door without damage on any make, model or year. Outside the city limits a travel fee is added, and we'll tell you the amount when you call. See our car lockout service for how it works.

How Much Does It Cost for a New Car Key?

How much a locksmith charges to make a car key depends on two things: what kind of key your car uses, and whether you still have a working key. We cut and program every key type below at your location, so there's no tow to the dealership. Not sure which key you have? Text a photo of it to 520-442-5008. The prices below are starting prices for adding a key when you still have a working one in hand. They include the key, cutting and programming. Call with your year, make and model and we'll give you your exact total before we come out. Example I have a 2010 Dodge Ram Style Key.

Basic Metal Key (No Chip)

A plain cut key with no electronics, found on many older vehicles. This is the least expensive car key we make within the last 35 years. From $90 to $119.00 if broken or cant be copied. Price includes Service Call.-

Transponder Key (Chip Key)

A key with a chip in the plastic head. The car won't start until the chip is programmed to it, which is why a hardware store copy opens the door but won't crank the engine. From $129.00 to 169.00 us made vehicles. Unless code need to be ordered.

Imports European keys exact price call us to get a quote these require module work like Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Range Rover and others makes. From $119 To $349

Remote Head Key

The key blade and the lock and unlock buttons are in one piece. Add a key: From $119 to $169  All keys lost $169 to $295

Flip Key

The blade folds into the remote. Common on Chevy, GMC, Volkswagen, Hyundai and Kia. Add a key: From $119 to $269.

FOBIK Key Plastic Head Insert

A thick plastic key that slides into a slot in the dash. Used on Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, Infinity, And Hyundai. Add a key From $129

Smart Key Push to Start Ignition

A key fob that stays in your pocket while you press a button to start the car. These cost the most because the fob itself costs more and the programming takes longer. Fact some don't know about these is there is a coil located in the center console to start when batteries deplete, additionally you can step on the break and press the top of the smart key to the button and it will start if no water damage had happened. From $169.

Aftermarket Key or Factory Key With the Logo

Two options on most remotes and smart keys, and we ask which you want before we quote.

  • Aftermarket key

  • looks like your original, has the same buttons and is programmed to do the same job.

  • It doesn't have the carmaker's logo.

  • This is what most of our customers choose, and it's what the prices on this page are based on.

  • Factory key

  • The carmaker's own part with the logo.

  • Costs more because the part costs more. Parts Plus $119-$349

Both are cut and programmed the same way and covered by the same warranty.

Adding a Spare Key vs. All Keys Lost

Adding a key means you still have one working key and want a spare, so we can use the key you have to program the new one. All keys lost means there is no working key, so we have to make the first key from scratch, which takes more time and equipment. Adding a key is the cheaper job every time.

When the Door Key and the Ignition Key Don't Match

When every key is lost, we read the door lock to work out the cut for your new key. That only works if one key was made to open the doors and turn the ignition. If the ignition was changed at some point and takes a different key, the ignition lock has to be rebuilt or changed so it matches the doors again.

Ignition rebuild or ignition lock change: $295 to $395 plus parts. The part is either a full lock kit or the ignition on its own, depending on the vehicle, so ask us which yours needs. The price includes cutting and programming your keys whenever possible, and we give you the key code so a missing key is easier to replace in the future. Some locks are sealed and can't be rebuilt, so those need new parts to match the doors to the ignition.

Vehicles That Cost More, and Why

Most cars fall inside the prices above. A few need extra work, and we tell you on the phone before we come out if yours is one of them.

  • Key codes

  • on some vehicles, including Dodge and some other American models, our programmer can't program the key directly and we have to order a key code.

  • That adds $60 to chip keys and remote head keys.

  • European makes all keys lost

  • We may need to remove a computer module from the car and take it to our shop to finish the programming.

  • That work needs a clean workspace and solid electrical connections, so it can't always be done where the car is parked.

  • 6 to 24 hours

  • Vehicles that need manufacturer software.

  • Some newer models only accept a key through the carmaker's own paid system, and that access fee is added to the job. [your fee]

These are starting prices, not quotes. Your exact price depends on the year, make and model, and we confirm it with you before any work starts.

Programming a Key Fob You Bought Yourself

We program customer supplied keys and fobs for $169 to $229 plus the service call. Send us the part number before you buy. Many cheap online fobs won't accept programming, and on some vehicles, including the Nissan Rogue, the wrong fob can lock up the car's computer. For those we only program a fob from the dealership or one we order for your exact vehicle.

Key Cutting Prices

How much key cutting costs depends on the cut. Our key cutting machine rides in the van, including the milling machine for laser cut, high-security keys like Honda's. We cut each side in more than one pass and smooth the edges, because a rough key wears out your ignition.

Let's Us get you back on the road, and into your car!

  • Standard car key cut

  • Laser cut

  • High-security key cut

  • Side Mill Key

Honda Ignition Repair Price?

If your Honda key sticks or won't turn, we rebuild the ignition cylinder for $349, and on most models that includes a new remote head key. We key it to your car's original code, so one key still works the doors and the ignition. This is most common on the 2004 to 2012 Civic, and we also do the Accord, CR-V, Element, Odyssey and Pilot. See Honda ignition repair.

Why a $15 Service Call Isn't a Cheap Car Locksmith Price

You'll see ads for very low service fees. The number to ask for is the total. Before any locksmith comes out, ask what the whole job will cost for your year, make and model, and whether you pay if they can't do it. We give you the total on the phone, and you don't pay unless the job is completed.

Will Insurance Pay for a Locksmith?

Many auto policies and roadside plans pay back lockout and key costs. We leave you paperwork you can send to your insurance company. Check your policy or call your insurer to see what's covered.

Locksmith Price

Do I pay if you can't open the car or make the key?

No. There's no charge unless the job is completed.

Will the price change once you get here?

We quote the total on the phone from your year, make and model. If we find something different when we arrive, like a worn ignition, we tell you the new price before we do any work.

Is a locksmith cheaper than the dealership for a car key?

With a dealership, the car has to get to them, which means a tow if you have no working key. We come to the car and cut and program the key where it sits. Call both and compare the totals.

Are emergency locksmith prices higher at night?

Not for vehicle lockouts we have a cap on our lockout services.

The $49 service call covers bringing the van and equipment to you anywhere in Tucson. Outside the city limits a travel fee is added, and we tell you the amount on the phone.

How can I pay?

Cash, credit and debit cards, tap to pay, Zelle and Venmo.

Do you offer a warranty?

Yes. Your warranty gets you 1 to 3 months parts and labor on our new parts and hardware.

What Our Valued Clients
Have to Say

Jon showed up on time, installed the new front door handle and deadbolt with careful attention to detail. The existing deadbolt hole dimensions weren't quite right so he bored out the hole to make the lock work smoothly.

Eric Copper

When John showed up he literally walked over to my door picked the lock it 2 minutes, yep 2 minutes flat, I'm not kidding 2 minutes! This dude even gave me a discount and made me a spare key in case my employees ever lock the keys in the truck again.
Thanks again, John.
